After First Independent Year, Cinterion Wireless Modules Maintains Market Share Leadership

Spun-off from Siemens, Cinterion Brings Leaner Operation, Faster Response Time and Increased Product Innovation to Global Customers
As it celebrates its one year anniversary as an independent firm, Cinterion Wireless Modules announced today that it maintained its worldwide leadership for cellular wireless modules with a market share of 33 percent – nearly twice as big as its nearest competitor. The Company also achieved record-breaking sales of more than € 200 million Euros, the equivalent of more than $283 million USD. Cinterion spun off from Siemens last summer after a leveraged buyout by the private equity investor Granville Baird and the T-Mobile Venture Fund.

As a newly independent firm and during turbulent financial times around the globe, Cinterion successfully transferred all assets and functions from Siemens to Cinterion without negative impact on operations or customers and grew its presence to more than 20 countries worldwide. The Company shipped more than 5.5 million modules in its first year, expanding the gap on its nearest competitor. In addition to maintaining its impressive worldwide sales lead, the Company recognized many other milestones during its first year:

  • Earned and maintained an impressive 95 out of 100 point Dun & Bradstreet rating, far above the typical industry average of 66 points
  • Record-breaking 2008 sales for the newly formed Cinterion Americas region, exceeding $100 million USD
  • Market leading product development and the launch of 10 new modules spanning a wide range of vertical industries and technologies
  • AC65i, AC75i – Next generation Automotive Platform modules were first eCall ready products to market and offer advanced telematics capabilities and TS 16949 quality standard compliance
  • EES3, EGS5, EGS3, BGS3 – LGA (Land Grid Array) Series scalable modules offer precise land grid array mounting and flexible soldering for cost effective, fully automated manufacturing and process consistency
  • MC75i, TC65i, TC63i – Connector Series scalable modules offer seamless upgrades as technology needs expansion
  • MC55i - Quad-band module enables seamless global operations and is suitable for a host of fields
  • Continued to deliver critical pre-approvals and certifications for all products including FCC (Federal Communications Commission), PTCRB and carrier certifications with global leaders such as AT&T and others. In addition, Cinterion signed agreements with major MNOs to make M2M applications more accessible to global enterprises
  • Established Elcoteq as a second manufacturer in Brazil to locally produce SMT modules, further expanding Cinterion’s leadership role in the region

“Ours has been an extremely successful transition to independence,” stated Norbert Muhrer, CEO, Cinterion Wireless Modules. “We built Cinterion as a lean, flexible company allowing a faster response to market needs and customer requirements. We’ve not only maintained our strong relationships with leading customers around the world, but we’ve expanded our penetration in new growth vertical markets including health care, environmental technology and the automotive industry.
