Cinterion Wireless Modules Americas Announces Record Sales, Responds by Expanding Management

Cinterion Wireless Modules, formerly known as Siemens Wireless Modules, the worldwide leading provider of GSM modules for the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) marketplace, today announced record-breaking sales in 2008, exceeding $100 million for GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA modules in the Americas.

In these challenging economic times, Cinterion Americas has experienced growth translating to tens of millions of dollars in 2008 versus the prior year. This further solidifies the Company’s leadership position in the modules market, made more impressive by the exclusion of CDMA modules, which many competitors often report in their Americas revenue.

The South America region will now be part of the newly established “Americas” region and will be led by Peter Fowler, regional president, Americas, whose former role was president, NAFTA region. The new regional organization creates an efficient flow of Americas-centric communication and specialization.

“Both North and South America have enjoyed exponential growth in 2008 in the face of tough economic times worldwide,” said Peter Fowler. “OEMs are relying on us for the long haul and market leaders now consider their module vendor’s financial stability mandatory criteria for selecting a technology partner. Growing our market
share is an essential step to ensure we remain profitable and cash flow positive. And by further expanding our market leadership and bringing in an unparalleled leadership team, we’ve been able to solidify our Americas business model under the Cinterion brand. We’re poised to come out even stronger in the coming year.”
The company has also strengthened its South American leadership team. Marcelo Catapani, formerly general manager of Motorola Wireless Modules, Latin America, joins Cinterion as president, South America. He leads with the highly successful Eduardo Casagrande, director, Brazil, in heading up the region. The seasoned executive team will continue to expand Cinterion’s market leadership based on its well-known differentiators of innovation, high quality, reliability, and direct global customer touch.

“I’m proud to have such a strong leadership team in place in the newly aligned Americas Region, led by Peter Fowler,” said Norbert Muhrer, president and CEO, Cinterion Wireless Modules. “The addition of Marcelo Catapani delivers tremendous industry experience both in Latin America as well as Brazil and Eduardo Casagrande
has proven his capabilities by the successful growth of our market-leading Brazilian business. We continue to demonstrate our commitment to both the Americas market and our customers with unparalleled attention and service.”

“I’m happy to join such a strong team and it’s clear South America is a key focus for Cinterion as the company continues to invest in the Brazilian and South American markets,” said Marcelo Catapani. “I look forward to helping expand Cinterion’s M2M footprint in the region by bringing innovative products to customers that help
increase productivity and efficiency.”
