eCall
Cinterion and the eCall system are, quite literally, helping to save lives. In Europe, probably soon every new car will be equipped with an Emergency Call [eCall] system, according to the European Union eSafety initiative being rolled out to all EU member states on the single pan-European emergency call number 112. With the help of the eCall system the response time in emergency situation can be reduced drastically.

Case summary
Cinterion and the eCall system are, quite literally, helping to save lives. Probably soon, all new cars sold in Europe will be equipped with an Emergency Call [e-Call] system installed. In the case of an accident, the eCall system activates exactly as an airbag is deployed. Using a Cinterion wireless module and a SIM card, the eCall system establishes a 112-voice connection with the nearest Public Safety Answering Point, (PSAP). At the same time, a minimum set of data (MSD) is sent to the PSAP operator who handles the voice call with key accident information such as time, location and vehicle description. While the operator is talking to the vehicle occupant trying to get a response, he can simultaneously dispatch an ambulance, saving precious time in an emergency.
