Cinterion Wireless Modules, the global leader in cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) communication modules, today announced it was selected as module partner for CalAmp’s next-generation Mobile Resource Management (MRM) product line-up. CalAmp’s MRM portfolio is used for local fleet management, vehicle finance, stolen vehicle recovery and remote start applications, and includes CalAmp’s LMU series and RMU-900 products which integrate Cinterion’s award-wining
BGS3 and
MC55i modules.
CalAmp’s LMU-700 series, LMU-2600 series and LMU-4200 series product lines will utilize Cinterion’s
BGS3 module, which is optimized for size and performance with LGA surface mount technology. The RMU-900 series will feature Cinterion’s
MC55i module, offering a compact footprint and enhanced features along with seamless compatibility for easy forward migration as communication needs expand.
“We’ve had a very productive, successful and enjoyable relationship with the industry experts at CalAmp. We look forward to continuing our high growth partnership to address a variety of transportation applications including cargo tracking and personal security,” said Peter Fowler, Regional President Americas, Cinterion Wireless Modules NAFTA. “Our proven technology and CalAmp’s unrivaled location and remote messaging units make for an unbeatable combination for improved productivity and efficiency while reducing costs.”
“When CalAmp needed field proven, leading technology that lent itself to our high volume manufacturing requirements, it was clear the Cinterion Wireless Modules were a great fit,” said Greg Gower, CalAmp’s Vice President and General Manager, MRM Group. “Cinterion’s superior modules coupled with outstanding integration and engineering support has enabled us to deliver a compelling next generation product line to help drive our market penetration.”
CalAmp's new Location Messaging Units (LMU) and Remote Messaging Units (RMU) products provide global positioning satellite (GPS) and cellular-based wireless asset tracking capabilities for 12-volt and 24-volt vehicles. Each product employs CalAmp's industry pioneering PEG™ (Programmable Event Generator) and PULS™ (Programming, Update and Logistics System), which were first introduced in the late 1990s and have evolved into the leading on-board alert engine and over-the-air device management and maintenance application, respectively. In addition, the new products feature an integrated wireless antenna designed to deliver unrivaled performance and expand installation flexibility.
Part of Cinterion's M2M Value Module Platform, BGS3 provides TCP/IP, serial interfaces and GPRS data rates up to 43 kbps along with outstanding LGA technology for easy and reliable automated manufacturing. MC55i packs powerful Quad-Band GPRS class 10 technology, TCP/IP connectivity over AT and RIL driver support for Microsoft Windows Mobile based devices into a very small form factor. Quad-Band technology provides virtually worldwide coverage with download speeds up to 86kbps and upload speeds up to 43kbps. Other key improvements include an operating temperature range to -40°c to +70°c for use in extreme environments.
Both modules can be integrated for a wide range of applications including metering, security, vending, POS, tracking and tracing, healthcare and more. All Cinterion modules also offer Full Type Approval (FTA) certification as well as worldwide carrier approvals to help shorten the time to market for developers.
