Cinterion Wireless Modules Ships One Million MC55i Modules
Cinterion Wireless Modules, the global leader in cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) communication modules, today announced it shipped one million MC55i modules and growing. This popular module continues the enormous success of its predecessors, MC55 and MC56, by offering enhanced features plus seamless compatibility for easy forward migration. MC55i features a compact footprint, expanded worldwide functionality and a product roadmap that protects technology investments for past, current and future customers.
“We designed MC55i with versatility in mind for a wide range of applications and industries,” said Norbert Muhrer, CEO, Cinterion Wireless Modules. “Improvements in size, processing and operations in extreme environmental conditions combined with Cinterion’s commitment to intelligent design and a farsighted, sustainable product road map helped push this module past the millionth module shipped mark with no signs of slowing down.”
Part of Cinterion’s M2M Value Module Platform, MC55i packs powerful Quad-Band GPRS class 10 technology, TCP/IP connectivity over AT and RIL driver support for Microsoft® Windows MobileTM based devices into a very small form factor. It is an ideal all-around module that can be integrated for a wide range of applications including metering, security, vending, POS, tracking and tracing, industrial PDAs and more. Quad-Band technology provides virtually worldwide coverage with download speeds up to 86kbps and upload speeds up to 43kbps. Other key improvements include an operating temperature range to -40°C for use in extreme environments. All Cinterion modules, including MC55i, offer Full Type Approval (FTA) certification as well as worldwide carrier approvals to help shorten the time to market for developers.
MC55i is complemented by Cinterion’s industry leading engineering support including early delivery of prototypes and design support for migration and new integration customers. SW compatibility and same mounting and connector concepts across the MC55 product platform guarantees Cinterion’s product portfolio promise of sustainable design and easy forward migration.
